Critique Me-Larissa at Capture Life Beautiful Photography

Remember:
Read How to Critique a Photo
Make a critique sandwich – something positive, something you would have done differently, something positive
My rule: no improvement tip = deleted comment
This will benefit the person leaving the photo critique just as much if not more than the person receiving the critique.

Christmas Tree Lights Photos: 5 Easy Steps

Can you believe it is almost time to start decorating the house and getting ready for Christmas?? When I asked on our Facebook page what you would tutorials you would like to see christmas tree lights photos were a big one.

This is one of my favorite images I captured last year. Let’s talk about how to get a photo like this one shooting in manual mode.

Christmas Tree Lights Photos

1. Turn off ALL the lights but the tree.
You want your house to be pitch black. You want the only lights on are the lights from the tree.

2. Crank up your ISO.
You are shooting in extremely low lighting and you may need to max out your ISO. Remember it is better to increase your ISO than have an underexposed image.

3. Set up your Tripod.
You may need to lower your shutter speed and since you may be photographing you children who move you want to eliminate your own camera shake.

4. Meter off the light hitting their face.
You are going to have very little light to work with so it may be a challenge but you want to make sure their faces are illuminated.

5. Tell your subject to FREEZE.
Because you may need to lower your shutter speed to get a properly exposed image you do not want them to move.

Settings: 20mm on D700, f/2.8, 1/100, ISO 3200
